What do you do on a wet winter’s day in Fremantle?

How about colouring in? Or doing chores?  Hmmmm. Maybe not. What about making slime?

YES! Let’s get on with this awesome voyage.

First of all you need to get permission from your parent or guardian.

  • PVA or craft glue
  • Shaving cream
  • Food colouring
  • Foaming soap
  • Borax
  • Water
  • Glitter and/or foam beads (optional)

  • Mixing bowl
  • Spatula
  • Measuring cup
  • Teaspoon
  • Glass jars

Now you get to make your stress-relieving masterpiece.

Ask an adult to mix a teaspoon of borax in a cup of warm water until it dissolves. This is the activator for the slime.

Open your glue and pour a cupful into a bowl. Add in your shaving cream. Start with about a cup. You can always add more later if it’s not fluffy enough. If you want to, you can add in some food colouring.

Make sure you mix these ingredients as you go.

Now you can add in glitter or foam beads if you want.

Time to activate your soon-to-be slime. Add in a teaspoon at a time of your borax and water mixture and mix it until it the slime gets off of the edges of the bowl. Now the fun really starts. Go in with your hands and knead this until it comes off your hands completely!!!

We made different colours and put them in glass jars.

You’re finished! But don’t forget to clean up your mess. Now it’s time to have some fun with your slime. How about you share it with your friends?

Here’s a clip of Amelia talking about why she loves slime and making our article for Freo Pages. See you next month for more of “Aila and Amelia” in Freokids.

Aila and Amelia

Local girls, Aila and Amelia, are great buddies who like to make, explore and do things together. They plan to write a regular column in Freokids so other Freo kids can follow their adventures and have fun with them along the way.
